Differentiation - it does not mean MORE WORK. It means more challenging work for those who are more able.

I have seen differentiation planned for in most of the lesson plans, but it is not specifically refereed to in the lesson. Maybe its a little more subtle? I don't know. It seems that it is more focused on when teachers are being moderated!

  1. Hi Ruth,

Rather than just more challenging work differentiated practice, particularly for those at the top end is deeper, broader work that can challenge their thinking and stretch their skills. Good differentiation simply enables all students to make progress in a lesson. It is mainly done quite subtly and is achieved through teachers knowledge of the students. It is probably the key area that even experienced teachers struggle with, but does get easier with time in the classroom.
